Alabama Media Group lands multiple awards, 12 Southeast Emmy nominations

The Alabama Media Group’s video team has won third place honors in an international journalism competition, and picked up 12 Southeast Emmy Awards nominations while editorial cartoonist J.D. Crowe has been named this year’s winner of the national Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for editorial cartoons.

The video and photo series “People of Alabama,” took third place in the International News Media Association’s Global Media Awards for best use of video. The series, highlighting everyday people across the state, was produced by AMG’s Red Clay Media in partnership with Alabama 200.

The AMG team of news, sports and lifestyle videographers also took home 12 Southeast regional Emmy nominations this year. The winners of those awards will be announced on September 12.

Additionally, Alabama Media Group editorial cartoonist J.D. Crowe has been named this year’s winner of the national Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for editorial cartoons.

Crowe’s cartoons that regularly appear on AL.com and in The Birmingham News, Mobile Press-Register and the Huntsville Times last year tackled such issues as Alabama’s law banning abortion, veterans struggling with homelessness, challenges to women’s rights, difficult conditions in the state’s prison system, and the policies and actions of President Donald Trump.
